The Order of the Allied Masonic Degrees which was founded in England in the late 1870’s is a branch of the oldest and largest worldwide fraternity in existence, Freemasonry. This fraternity and all its appendent bodies extoll the virtues of the Brotherhood of Men under the Fatherhood of a Supreme Being. Although of a religious nature, Freemasonry is not a religion. It urges its members, however, to be faithful and devoted to their own religious beliefs.

The Order of the Allied Masonic Degrees serves an important purpose in the family of Freemasonry, and that is to bring together Freemasons in small groups who through the medium of study and research, prepare themselves to better serve the Craft as a whole. The primary focus of the constituents Councils are to have members prepare and present papers on different aspects of the Craft.

Every candidate for admission to the Order of the Allied Masonic Degrees must first be a Master Mason and a Companion of the Holy Royal Arch.

The Allied Masonic Degrees of Canada is a national body, and is governed by the annual assembly of members consisting of principle officers and past Sovereign Masters of each constituent council. This annual assembly in turn, elects a core of officers who are collectively known as the Grand Council, which is led by a Sovereign Grand Master. The Sovereign Grand Master appoints other Officers and several committees to advise him and to share the work.
